Wild landscapes. A debate millions of years in the making. A species widespread across cultures and continents.
Written Statement:
Braeden is a filmmaker and artist whose interests are guided by the relationships between people, the sciences, and their impact on and interactions with the natural world around them. His current works include documenting the significance of the common raven (Corvus corax) as a variety of subjects paint a picture of a highly intelligent species long deemed to be a trickster, omen of death, and harboring the secrets of creation and destruction. His works also explore the complexities of a highly politicized debate over the ownership of dinosaur fossils and the disparity between commercial, private, academic, and legal interests.
With years of experience in biological sciences, research and conservation, and documentary filmmaking, his work aims to inform the public about the unique realms of science, natural history, and everyday life that can be observed through a scientific, cinematic, and approachable lens to bridge the gap between these often separated worlds. With an emphasis on observational and vérité modes, Braeden’s work explores the realms between scientific inquiry and public understanding covering a range of topics.
